Photos from my 40+ years of Karting - page 2
Almost every photo on this page taken by my life-long friend Bob Ray
It's 1984 and we're racing around a school in Beaver Dam, KY.
Later in the race at Beaver Dam, the expansion chamber fell off, I tried to hold it on,
lost my gloves, burned my hands, and lost the race.
Wheeling out of turn one in Memphis on a Margay I don't remember ever driving.
Heading into the switchback in Memphis on the Margay. I wish I could remember this kart!
Right in the switchback on the Margay.
Later in the weekend heading into the switchback in Memphis on William's kart.
Using some body english through the sweeper in Memphis.
On the Magnum at the school in Smyrna in 1985. Man, I loved that place. Won 11 out of 13 races there.
Down the front straight on the Magnum at the Fairgrounds.
Leading Scott Johnson through the turn 1 switchback at the Fairgrounds "road course".
Hauling down the backstraight on the quarter mile at the Fairgrounds.
Turn 3 of the quarter mile - look how much banking it had until they reconfigured it in 1988.
Something I rarely did - running on the flat through 3 & 4 on the quarter mile track.
Leading a pack at a street race just south of Indianapolis in the fall of 1986.
One of the most scenic tracks I've ever run on in Seymour, TN. Pappy T wasn't so impressed.
As we drove out the gate he said take a good look because we'd never be back!
Leading the field into turn one at the Fairgrounds in 1987.
At the end of the front straight at the Fairgrounds.
In the hairpin on William's kart at Paducah.
Turning into turn one on the modified road course we used at the Fairgrounds.
I've opened up a pretty good lead on TC's kart at the Fairgrounds.
Close quarters drafting on the 5/8ths at the Fairgrounds.
Picking up the right front at Beach Bend in Bowling Green in May of 1988.
Coming off turn two at Nashville. That bad boy has some right side bite - both left wheels are off the ground!
Leading Scott McDonald at Paducah on the Magnum.
It's 1989 and I'm leading Frankie Swing through 3 and 4 at the Fairgrounds on William's kart.
Leading again through 3 and 4 on the quarter mile at the Fairgrounds.
Taking the high line at Highland Rim in 1989. I always figured you couldn't pass 'em of you were following them.
1990 and my last major win in Cuddebackville, NY. A satisfying win because I beat the local hot shoe on his home turf.
My last year of full-time racing, here at Paducah in 1992.
The last time I competed for 22 years. I'm laying the chrome horn to Guy Hobbs at the Karting Kettle in Elkhart Lake, WI in 1996.
It was a fun annual race for t.v. people that was crashed through the years by the likes of Juan Pablo Montoya (and his DAD!), Danny Sullivan, Cristiano da Matta, and others.
Team Haddock Ltd. had a pretty good day at the 1977 Carnival for Karts. The same 3 got together again in 2014
when TC decided to run the vintage karting event in Barnesville. There is nothing better than life-long friends.
Lynn Haddock, Teresa Gammons, RT, and Tommy Crosby. All four of us started karting as pre-teens and were
reunited when Lynn brought a kart to Nashville for TC to drive in September of 2014. A special day.
Thanks to Kart Warehouse USA I was able to rent a kart and compete again in November 2014 after a 22 year hiatus.
Didn't do well - not at 100 pounds overweight - but had more than a great time. Mostly because of all the friends who showed up for support.
That's Ben at the left front holding the clipboard. That was one of the best parts of the day.
He finally got to see what his old man did for 27 years. I'm so thankful he got to experience the day with me.
