1973 Uniroyal 100 Late Model Sportsman Race

Nashville Fairgrounds, June 16, 1973

I was 15 and had a borrowed fixed-lens camera that wasn't very good for taking photos of race cars,

but I knew I needed to be taking pictures of race cars. This is my second attempt at taking photos at

the Fairgrounds, and I knew from my first attempt I needed to be close to the track. Also, this was the

first time I had taken pictures at night, so I was guessing on settings. Not the greatest photos, but they

document a race that would pretty much be lost to time if I didn't post them, so here you go, warts and all.

  Alton Jones comes back to the pits after qualifying
• 
  Trouble in turn 4 of the quarter mile during the Cadet feature. No surprise, George Bennett won the race.

  Darrell Waltrip lines up in the Ellis Cook Falls City Chevelle
• 
  The front row of Dave Marcis and LD Ottinger line up right behind the pace car
• 
  Jack Ingram borrowed Waltrip's backup car and lines up beside Don Anthony
• 
  James Ham and Freddy Fryar move into their starting positions
• 
  Alton Jones started 4th - he had to change his number because local driver George Bonee used the #14
• 
  Rows 3, 4, and 5 take their place on the grid
• 
  Marcis in the AJ King Dodge and Ottinger lead the field on the pace lap
• 
  The field takes the green flag
• 
  Pretty much the entire field makes their way through turn one
• 
  Waltrip leads Marcis and Jones
• 
  Ottinger trailing Waltrip
• 
  Fryar and Ingram battle
• 
  Ham looks to the high side of Marcis
•
